Do Fantasy Sports Have More Drawbacks Than Positives?

Published by Carlos Reese under Football

One of my hobbies is playing fantasy sports leagues. I’ve playing for a while now and have fantasy teams in baseball, basketball and football. I’ve also tried other basic, sports based games.

At the end of the day, this is good, harmless fun. You act as a team manager and buy and sell players and build your team, giving you areal sense of satisfaction when your team wins.

As with all things that you really enjoy doing; fantasy leagues get very addictive. There are loads of stats and positions to check and I find myself doing this constantly, and also checking out my competitor’s results.

I’ve even watched matches that I couldn’t care less about just to see how it will affect my teams’ placings. I will also follow games for the same reason. There are some that actually wonder if it is harmless considering how addicted some players get.

A true sports fan loves a good competition where things are nip and tuck; it brings out our competitive nature. There are lots of positive things about playing these leagues, and like a real sport, they keep us occupied for the duration of the season.

On the flip side, I do tend to get rather over involved and lose my temper when players put in bad performances and feel that they have let the rest of the team down. This often overshadows the actual result.

Like many of us, I have favorite teams in real life that I have been a fan of since childhood. Why now, for the first time ever, is my allegiance being tested by teams that don’t even exist? If fixtures clash I’m in the horrible situation of having to choose between them.

Do I have a problem? Well if I do there are millions of us. This is a topic for hot debate by many sports enthusiasts.

Facts All Tennis Players Will Want To Acknowledge Relating To Red Clay Tennis Courts

Published by Thomas Bear under Outdoor Sporting

The red clay that is used as the surface on a tennis court originated right back to the origins of the game. If you play tennis yourself, you have been privileged to have a game on this famous surface. The history of the red clay court is particularly prevalent in Spain and the home of the only major played on clay; France.

This is a unique surface and makes the style of play completely different from other surfaces. To actually play on clay is an exhilarating experience.

If you have never had the pleasure of playing on red clay, and would like to know a little more about it, here’s a few interesting facts.

The serve and volley players who regularly record wins on other surfaces will often struggle on the red clay. To win on this surface you will be playing from the baseline with punishing ground strokes.

If you do ever see a player approach the net while playing on clay, it is a very rare thing indeed. Those who rely on their booming serve will also find that it hasn’t the effect on this surface as it does on others.

So why is the strategy for this game so different? Well, it is very simple, the clay is a thick and heavy surface which sticks to the ball and therefore slows it Down considerably.

Where as on other surfaces such as hard courts the ball skids along the surface at speed, on clay courts it is slowed right down by the thickness of the surface.

As the ball has been slowed down; it will bounce a lot higher than on other surfaces, so the players have more time to get to the ball and return it. It is due to this that clay can claim to have some of tennis’ longest matches played on it.

The rallies are obviously longer and shots easier to reach than they would be on the fast courts. A sure fire winner on grass is probably reachable on clay.

Speed is the key on clay, to reach the ball early while it is still on the rise and put it away thanks to a thumping ground stroke.

Is Albert Pujols The Clear Choice For Most Consistent Modern Day Hitter?

Published by Matt Finley under Sports Equipment

Sports are always a topic of debate, and baseball is no exception. If you are a fan, you will undoubtedly have been asked at sometime if you think that the best hitter you\’ve ever seen is Albert Pujols.

To keep the debate modern and up to date, we shall only compare Pujols with players we are familiar with from the past thirty years.

Going back even further doesn\’t give a very fair debate, as the whole nature of the game was different; equipment and fields etc. Ok, Willie Mays and Ted Williams were great in their day; to compare them with Pujols is unfair to all three of them.

As the game has evolved so much, we can\’t tell how well players from the past would have played today, and vice versa. We can consider Pujols to be the batsman of our times on his merits alone.

To start with, there is a possibility he can still improve as he doesn\’t hit 30 until his next birthday. His consistency has been second to none; few players can boast that they have turned out every week and played like Pujols has, let\’s check out a few of his statistics.

Albert Pujols has a career average that is capable of winning a league. His overall average is an amazing .334. His second season brought about the lowest average of .312 and his worst since has been .327.

Pujols is an MLB player and has now played 9 seasons in this league. During 5 of those he has hit 40 home runs. The lowest amount he has ever hit in a season is 32; this is an outstanding stat by anyone\’s standards.

There are many for arguments in the debate about Pujols being a terrific hitter, and, so far, no against ones. Each year his consistency is awesome and it\’s hard to believe now that anyone can take his place as the best batsman we will have ever seen.

Which Attribute Means The Most In The Sport Of Tennis?

Published by Paige Seton under Outdoor Sporting

As the sport continues to evolve, many players and fans of tennis will debate the merits of the most important skill that a player can possess.

So it\’s all just conjecture really, but it\’s still worth having a debate over just for the fun of it and there are many aspects of the sport to choose from.

I have listed a few elements to consider. Which do you think are important?

What about volleying? A game that it going too smoothly can become a disadvantage for opponents as point may easily be lost. Just take a look back at players of the past such as John McEnroe.

Is baseline play across the net favoured by modern games? A Lot of tennis experts would argue in favour. Andy Roddick would spend time playing the game from the net but he now prefers the baseline play. And take the example of Rafael Nadal who also takes control from the rear of the court.

On the other hand, maybe it is the serve that is important. A strong serve will give the player a distinct advantage over their opponent and if you consider the example of Roddick who will control the course of the match with his serve if he has made it difficult for his opponent to break them.

And what about the speed of the players? It obviously helps out a lot if the player can reach the ball every time and the opponent then has to work that bit harder to gain a point.

The last factor is the x-factor, and the one that I personally feel matters most. This is the mental game. The superstars like Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal have some of the toughest mental games in the history of the sport.

With the ability to rarely be rattled, their stoic composure and never say die attitude wins them so many more matches than the stats would indicate.

Well Priced High End Cars

Published by Nick Harden under Outdoor Sporting

Some very lucky people on this earth are able to go out and purchase their dream car after having dreamed about it for a little while, for the rest of us however, those dreams will likely never become a reality but there is no harm in dreaming.

Whether the zeros in your bank account are reading before the decimal or after, you can still take a moment to dream about that perfect car. It can be more than fun looking into the high-end cars of today and imagining you\’re in the driver\’s seat.

If I had the money I would certainly consider the Nissan GT-R. It is a rich persons bargain buy at just $70,000 and is really worth the money when compared to other cars going for the same price.

Many people compare this to the Porsche 911 turbo, and the fact that it does 0 to 60 in 3.3 seconds should tell you all about the capabilities of this high quality engine.

For more than ten years the BMW M3 had been classed at the top. And with the M3, the German manufacturer continues to maintain higher standards when compared to other cars.

Enhancements are the key to improvement of status; the M3 has had a carbon fibre roof added to its look, which makes it much lighter on the surface of the road as well as making it look good.

The Audi RS4. This is a four door car that looks like a sports car. With a V8 engine and 420 horsepower, it drives like one too.

So the Audi RS4 has been sent to us from the future. It has so many gadgets and technological highlights and makes you feel like you\’re up to the minute with the latest stuff. Priced at around $60,000 it does give you quite a lot for the money and seems to be the best value when compared to other cars of the same price.

While the one that you choose should depend on your personal tastes, it\’s safe to say that all of these are finely crafted automobiles that you\’re sure to enjoy.

A Classic Battle Is On Its Way

Published by Danny Powell under Football

Every generation of football sees the emergence and prevalence of a few elite quarterbacks. In the 80s and 90s, we saw the likes of Montana, Elway, Marino, and Aikman dominating the sport. Currently, quarterbacks like Manning, Favre, Brady, and Brees are clearly the best in the game.

Very rarely do we see two of the best quarterbacks in the sport facing off against one another in the Super Bowl. This year, the football world will be privileged enough to enjoy such an opportunity. Not only is this the case, but many believed that both teams were tops in the league through the course of the season.

Both the Saints and Colts won their first 14 games, leading many to speculate as to whether these teams would go undefeated through the course of the entire season.

Neither the Colts nor the Saints finished out the season without a loss. In fact, each team lost two games, each for their own reasons. Still, this was enough to secure home field advantage, which clearly helped to secure a Super Bowl berth for each team.

This year\’s Super Bowl matchup is sure to be an exciting one. Two of the best quarterbacks of our generation have the opportunity to go head to head.

In recent years, it\’s been all about defense. Look at last year\’s Steelers for a perfect example, as the best defense in the league ultimately won the Super Bowl.

Recent champions have all resulted from highly proficient defenses and while both the Colts and Saints are efficient defensively, their defensive performances won\’t matter much since each quarterback seems to be effective no matter what.

This may very well be one of the highest scoring Super Bowls we\’ve seen in recent years. As great as defensive battles can be, this will be an extremely refreshing change from the usual.

First Timer Summer Camp

Published by Lonnie Lorenz under Outdoor Sporting

Parents have you ever thought about Summer Camp? Not quite sure how to start the search? Now, it is easy! A camp tailored to the needs of of children who are going for the first time has been created. Swift Nature Camp\’s directors, Jeff and Lonnie Lorenz, After listening for years to parents and children, have created a special 12 day program specific to meet the needs of all new campers and their parents.

This Nature Summer Campsis a twelve-day First Timer\’s Program offered at the Swift Nature Camp facilities near Minong, Wisconsin. The program utilizes Swift Camp\’s highly trained staff at a ratio of two staff members for every cabin of eight new campers. The first time at summer camp will quite possibly be a child\’s first extended time away from home. The program acknowledges this by making sure that every new camper will find a staff member on hand at all times. First time campers need to feel special, and the first priority of this program is to foster the sense that camp is there for them and exists for their benefit.

Prior to each camper\’s arrival, the staff studies the informational packet for that person. They learn about each child and gain awareness of specific individual needs. If any camper has medical circumstances or special needs these will discussed by the staff in confidence with the camp nurse. By the time a child arrives at camp, the staff will feel as if they already know that new camper. This preparation is immediately beneficial to the first-time camper from the moment he or she steps off the bus and is warmly and personally greeted.

The first day of camp is Orientation Day it is a special day when all New campers get an in-depth tour of Swift Nature Camp. This includes a visit to the Health Center, the Mail Box, and each activity area. Every activity is introduced with a discussion about the importance of safety and the basic safety information for that activity.

Staff members work hard to promote an atmosphere of nurturing and harmonious friendship from the campers\’ first day of cabin life. There is a Respect List for all to agree to and sign, and each night will end with a bedtime story. The cabin is the place where community begins. First time campers are gently brought into a sense of connection and community with others who begin on equal footing.

One of the things that makes Discovery Camp, so special forFirst Time Campers is it\’s well rounded variety of camp activities. During morning activities campers are invited to instruction at two activity areas. These activities include Swimming, Canoeing, Nature Center, Arts and Crafts, Archery, and more. Campers are encouraged to try new and different activities, giving each of them the opportunity to discover and explore what activities he or she might enjoy and eventually excel in. This is always done as a challenge by choice. In the afternoon, campers make their choice from the daily activity board.

Our goal at Swift Nature Camp is to encourage each child to learn independence in a safe, age appropriate environment. Often patrents ask: \”why 12 days?\” We have found it to be the optimum time for a first time camper to leave homesickness behind and gain a comfortable sense of autonomy. Their has to be enough time passing that campers can not just count the days till their parents return. Probably, the greatest lesson camp teaches is that one can leave home and return . To which very few things will have changed.

The directors of Swift Nature Camp think it\’s important that parents feel confident their child\’s first time away from home is in a safe, nurturing and secure environment. As a part of the Discovery Camp\’s first timer program, parents are encouraged to visit and call about the progress of their child.

Summer Camp the Movie

Published by Lonnie Lorenz under Outdoor Sporting

As parents we need to look for opportunities that will help our children grow and mature. The right summer camp can provide just such an opportunity. But do not just settle for the camp where your child\’s friends go. We are the owners of Swift Nature Camp a Summer Camp in Wisconsin. When looking for a camp, start with a goal in mind, make a list highlighting the items that you feel are most important for your new camper. Then, hop on the internet with your list in hand to help keep you focused as you narrow down your search and select your candidates.

Narrow your search to four or five possibilities, and then call or e-mail each camp to ask for information. Perhaps more important than printed materials, camps will send you a promotional video. Remember, these DVDs are tools to help you find the right summer camp. But they are also tools for camps to SELL a place in their camp to you and your child. So keep that in mind when you view them.

Now it is time get to get your child involved. Sit down as a family and watch the videos. Let your child take the lead talking about what he or she saw, and tell you more about what he or she is looking for. You may need to do a little encouraging to get your new camper talking. Doing this persisitently will help you see what is important in a camp to your child. Prior to going to camp, please explain to your child that the videos are advertisements and that the reality may not always match what you see on the screen. It is good to stop for brief reality check now and then!

While viewing the DVD watch the little details for clues that will give you an inside look at the camp\’s philosophy and strengths. While you\’re watching, look for the following information:

Does the video answer your questions about the camp? While there should be additional questions that you will want to ask the director, the video should give you a comprehensive overview.

Do the kids in the video look like they\’re having fun? What activities are they doing, and would your child enjoy them?

;Does the video answer your questions about the camp? While there should be additional questions that you want to ask the director, the video should give you a comprehensive overview.

What does the video emphasize? Pay attention to what activities and facilities get the most time in the video.

What level of sports are shown, in terms of skill and sophistication? If you\’re looking for a specialty sports camp, does the level of play look too advanced or too basic?

What philosophical qualities does the video stress? Does the video seem to be consistent with and complement the philosophies expressed in the camp\’s printed materials?

What was your and your child\’s general impression after watching? Sometimes a gut instinct may tell you what you need to know.

Remember, videos are a great way to get a basic understanding about children\’s camps but dont be fooled by slick, high-powered DVDs. They are only a tool to help you make an informed decision, but you will still need to talk to the camp directors personally and ask for and check references to make the best choice for your child.

Not all programs are designed for the First Time Camper but look for one that is like ours at Swift Nature Camp.

The 5 Greatest Point Guards Of The Past Two Decades

Published by James Badger under Basketball

If you look at most successful basketball teams, there\’s a highly skilled point guard in place running the show on offense. These are the guys who make magic happen on the basketball court.

The ball distributor sets the tone for a team\’s offense and an apt one is likely to lead his team to success. If he\’s a good defender, he\’ll do even more good for his team.

We\’ve been privileged enough to have some of the best point guards in the history of the sport during the last quarter century. I\’d like to give my due to five of them, and I\’ll be ranking them in order. This all comes down to my opinion, and I hope you agree with my rankings here.

Number five on my list goes to Steve Nash. It\’s remarkable to think about the fact that his best basketball has been played after the age of 30. While he\’s now 35, some coaches and analysts think he\’s playing better than he ever has.

At number four, Chris Paul gets a spot on the list here. He\’s only been in the league for five seasons now, but what an impact he\’s made in that span. He\’s yet to win an MVP award, but he\’s due for one when you consider what he does for his team.

Chris Paul fills the stat sheet like no other point guard in basketball. Between his league high assists and steals, his great shooting ability, and his rebounding prowess, Paul is truly one of a kind.

Jason Kidd. The triple double king of our generation and one of the best to ever handle the basketball, Kidd is a modern day Oscar Robertson with his unique ability to pass and rebound from the point guard position.

John Stockton. The all-time assists leader has to be on this list. Wonder why the Jazz made the playoffs for nearly 20 years straight, all the way until Stockton was over 40 years old? It was the combo of this phenom and Karl Malone.

You probably know who number one is, especially since I\’ve mentioned the other four. Magic Johnson is simply the best point guard to ever play the game. His assists per game were higher than anyone on this list, and he\’s the only one here to have won a championship too. Enough said.

Which Star Will Be Ranked At The Top In Tennis After The Finish Of This Season?

Published by Jared Mobley under Outdoor Sporting

With the Aussie Open starting off the startup \’10 tennis calendar year, the action is officially here again. There are several pros comprising a pro tour that finds itself much more up for grabs than it\’s happened to be in many seasons.

Gone are the times of Federer and Rafa ruling each and every tournament. There are a number of additional participants on the tour who have real prospects each and every time a slam commences.

Although Roger Federer and Nadal sit on the top two ranks in the world, there are several competitors who might finish up the year sitting at the top. Let\’s have a look at the favorite heirs to the throne at this time.

Not surprisingly, there is Roger Federer. He should at all times be regarded as the most likely to wind up atop the the men\’s tour, since he\’s done so pretty much each and every year during the course of the previous 10 years. In spite of everything, his age of twenty nine reveals that he\’s slowly beginning to age.

If Rafael Nadal can stay healthy, there is no valid reason to believe that he won\’t end up there. In reality, many folks think that he might have ranked there last year if he hadn\’t been required to skip Wimbledon because of his knee condition.

Also in the mix is the youthful twenty year old Juan Martin Del Potro, whose incredible victory at the US Open surprised many tennis enthusiasts. To active ones, the young talent\’s win was not such a shock. The guy is astonishingly talented and is good enough to take the tour\’s best rank this year.

Rounding out the field are two additional prospective men. Let us have a look at them both.

Novak Djokovic is among those players that fans thought would likely be # 1 at some point, however he hasn\’t entirely gotten there up till now. He is considerably more grown up at the current age, and may possibly at long last enjoy both the physical and mental toughness to make it happen.

Finally, there\’s Andy Murray. With youth on his side, the English talent is in top physical shape and found himself as well as #2 a year ago. With some meaningful titles in 2010, he may well become this year\’s dark horse.

The writer also frequently blogs about cardboard magazine storage boxes and personalized cardboard boxes.
