Do Fantasy Sports Have More Drawbacks Than Positives?

Published by Carlos Reese under Football

One of my hobbies is playing fantasy sports leagues. I’ve playing for a while now and have fantasy teams in baseball, basketball and football. I’ve also tried other basic, sports based games.

At the end of the day, this is good, harmless fun. You act as a team manager and buy and sell players and build your team, giving you areal sense of satisfaction when your team wins.

As with all things that you really enjoy doing; fantasy leagues get very addictive. There are loads of stats and positions to check and I find myself doing this constantly, and also checking out my competitor’s results.

I’ve even watched matches that I couldn’t care less about just to see how it will affect my teams’ placings. I will also follow games for the same reason. There are some that actually wonder if it is harmless considering how addicted some players get.

A true sports fan loves a good competition where things are nip and tuck; it brings out our competitive nature. There are lots of positive things about playing these leagues, and like a real sport, they keep us occupied for the duration of the season.

On the flip side, I do tend to get rather over involved and lose my temper when players put in bad performances and feel that they have let the rest of the team down. This often overshadows the actual result.

Like many of us, I have favorite teams in real life that I have been a fan of since childhood. Why now, for the first time ever, is my allegiance being tested by teams that don’t even exist? If fixtures clash I’m in the horrible situation of having to choose between them.

Do I have a problem? Well if I do there are millions of us. This is a topic for hot debate by many sports enthusiasts.

Great Tents for a Great Family Camping Trip

Published by Michelle Robert under Outdoor Sporting

Camping with your family is one of the best ways to share special experiences, enjoy nature at it’s finest, and visit new and exciting places. In fact, many feel that camping is the ultimate American vacation. But to have a successful camping vacation, you need the right equipment for your family, and having the right tent may be the most important piece of equipment. Two great choices for family camping that you may want to consider are the Eureka Headquarters Tent and the Columbia Cougar Flats II.

There are not many things that can make a camping vacation more miserable than a pouring rain that ends up soaking everything in your tent….unless it is a hot summer evening that leaves everyone inside the tent sweltering because there is no ventilation. One of the benefits of the Eureka Headquarters Tent is that it handles both of these situations really well.

The Eureka Headquarters Tent has two doors that each have their own windows, and two additional large windows, so there is a lot of air moving in here, which makes it very nice if you are summer campers. And if it rains? You will be dry, because Eureka has it’s “Stormshield” which adds to the tents resistance to rain and increases it’s durability…plus there is a heavy-duty “bathtub floor” which does a very nice job of repelling water.

What about if you need a large tent for camping with your family? Well the Columbia Cougar Flats II may be the perfect choice for you.

Anyone who has camped, especially with kids, knows how challenging it can be to fit everyone…and everything…into a little tent. Sleeping bags, air mattresses, clothing, and supplies often leave little room for people. This is precisely what makes the Columbia Cougar Flats II such a great tent for family camping. There are several great benefits to this tent, but it’s size is awesome. With 10 ft. by 15 ft. of space, there is plenty of room to spread out. The tent allows you to divide the space into two “rooms” and they are large enough to have parents on one side and kids on the other, or have everyone on one side and use the other size for “living” space. Since it can sleep up to 8 people, this tent is a nice choice for anyone who is camping with a large family or group.

Camping is a wonderful way to create one-of-a-kind family experiences and truly special memories. Making sure that you have the right tent for your family is an important way to make sure that your camping trip is memorable in a good way. The Eureka Headquarters Tent and the Columbia Cougar Flats II both are great tents that are super choices for a great family camping experience.

Family camping can be a fun experience but not having the right gear can ruin your trip. Want to be certain that you have a great camping vacation? Learn more about the Eureka Headquarters Tent and the Columbia Cougar Flats IItent, read the product reviews from those who love using theirs, and see if one is the right tent for your family.

Orioles Trade George Sherrill: A Closer Look

Published by Nicholas McMillan under Baseball

Upon first hearing the news about the Baltimore Orioles and the fact that they traded their closer for two minor league baseball players, I was very surprised to hear the news. It really seemed like they gave him away for nothing in return. I knew nothing of Bell and Johnson, and wasn’t happy about it.

Some more research into the players they received in return changed my mind slightly. Yes, I wish they had actually gotten someone who can help us here and now, instead of next year or whenever Bell and Johnson come up.

Sure, the season’s obviously done in Baltimore. There’s no way in the world they can think about catching the Yankees or the Red Sox, let alone the Rays. Maybe Toronto, but that’d get the team nowhere anyway.

Looking ahead, they’ll need to make moves in order to become a competitive team in the AL East. The Yankees and Red Sox will surely stay competitive, so it’ll likely take some big moves.

With Melvin Mora, 36, in his last year of his contract and having lost a good few steps, the Orioles needed a young player who could come up and take his spot in the future. Josh Bell, a third baseman, could most definitely fill any void that Mora leaves.

Josh Bell could easily fill his shoes, as his .296 batting average, 11 home runs and 52 RBI with Chattanooga are all solid 2009 numbers. Johnson’s posted very respectable numbers at the starting pitcher position for the same team, with a 9-5 record and a respectable 3.61 ERA. Both players have bright futures and could be key contributors to the Orioles in the years to come.

An already promising young collection of players just bolstered its strength by a bit. With a team that’s sure to improve in talent over the course of the next few years, it looks like Bell and Johnson can both carve out their roles as valuable contributors in Baltimore.

Let’s go Orioles!

Nicholas McMillan is a lifelong MLB zealot, and is thrilled to see improvement on the Orioles’ part. He often adds to his thoughts at this Baltimore Orioles forum, and posts at their general sports forum whenever he needs a change of pace.

Dealing With Downward Slopes on the Golf Course

Published by Mick Euan Tait under Golf

When I lived in the south of Scotland, I’d sporadically play golf on a course which was on the side of a large hill. Besides a few holes, the bulk of them were both straight uphill or downhill. It had been these holes with downhill slopes that gave me the more problems.

For those of you who have played a golf course like that, you almost definitely know how difficult hitting from a downward lie can be. It’s particularly challenging for recreational golfers, who have not much practice hitting from this kind of lie. Hitting off a downward slope is largely a matter of making the suitable changes. Listed here are a number of adjustments that will allow you to play from a downhill slope.

Consideration for a Downhill Slope Shot

In essence, you must position the ball back in your position, swing with the slope, and chase the golf ball down the slope. There are a couple of things to remember when confronted with a downward lie; a shot from a downward slope tends to fade right plus the slope will influence your golf club choice. Even though you strike the ball cleanly, it is going to have a tendency to fade right, accordingly learn cope it by aiming a little left of the target.

Golf Club Selection for a Down Slope

A downhill slope affects the balls distance and height, as a result you’ll want to make adjustments with your club choice. A downhill slope will decrease the loft in the club so the ball flies lower and more. If you’d normally hit a 6-iron for the distance to your target, try hitting an 8-iron. The quantity of adjustment, or just how much less club you will need, will depend on the inclination of the slope. Just individual experience can tell you how much more club to hit.

Alter Your Set-up

To effectively contact a golf ball from the downhill slope, you will have to make some modifications. Probably the most essential thing to do is maintain your equilibrium; that suggests making sure your spine is vertical to the slope plus your weight is on your leading foot. As a consequence, your shoulders and hips will lean downward to match the lie of the land.

The set-up position for a down slope is achieved by moving your forward foot down the hill so that the golf ball position shall be further to the rear than usual. One more concern with down hill lies is the swing path; to get more height, hit down and across the incline of the slope, as if you are chasing the ball downhill. What’s more, you should not permit the transfer of weight get beyond limit at impact. Stay as well balanced as possible by taking a shorter than normal swing, and end using a easy follow through. Clear your left hip as you swing down and through the ball helps with the follow-through also. These adjustments will assure clean contact with the ball.

Uphill Lies

These modifications in your set-up and swing mirror those required for uphill lies. With uphill lies, the weight is on the rear foot, the golf ball is positioned forward in the position, and the inclination is to pull the ball left. You will have to take less club on an uphill because the ball will fly higher plus a shorter distance. No matter if uphill or down hill, you have to control your weight transfer and you should swing down and with the slope.

Take these issues into account the next occasion you’re playing a undulating golf course. Almost all courses have inclined fairways even when they aren’t mainly hilly. So, it is a good suggestion to put into practice hitting off slopes, whether downhill, uphill, or side lies.

Mick Euan Tait has golfed for more than 35 years but he did not start to improve his game until taking some Golf Instruction Online. Nowadays, there is no reason not to improve with so many golf resources online; so check out his Golf Apprentice Program Review for more details.
