College Football Flashback: USC Finds A Way To Beat Ohio State

Published by Ross Everett under Football

While not a vintage performance by their lofty standards, the University of Southern California Trojans overcame a number of mistakes to make big plays when they counted to prevail in a come from behind victory over Ohio State. Stafon Johnson capped a late game drive by scoring the game winning touchdown with just over a minute remaining as the Trojans won by a final score of 18-15. It was the first time the Trojans held the lead since early in the first quarter.

Ohio State did cash tickets for college football bettors, however, covering the spread as a +7 home underdog. USC won and covered last year, but the pointspread setback this year dropped the Trojans to a still impressive 13-5 ATS against the Big Ten conference since 1992. It was also only the second non-cover by a USC team in a non conference game in their last ten opportunities. The 33 combined points went UNDER the posted total of 45. Last years game also failed to exceed the total, and USC continued a strong UNDER tendency of late.

19 year old freshman Matt Barkley engineered the game winning touchdown drive. After the game, he spoke of the Trojan tradition of victory:

“We’re Trojans. That’s what we do. This is what we dreamed of, coming back like this. Doesn’t matter where we are in the score. We found a way. I love this.”

Tailback Joe McKnight sarcastically dismissed suggestions that Barkley was rattled by a tenacious and stifling Buckeye defense:

“He was scared, really. No, he came in with the same composure he had the whole game. He was calm. He made plays.”

USC coach Pete Carroll praised Barkleys composure in such an intense environment:

“He’s not 19. He’s our quarterback. I’m not worried about how old he is. Numbers mean nothing.”

Ohio State linebacker Greg Rolle said his defense couldnt have played better”until the final drive:

“It’s very frustrating, but we knew eventually they’d make plays. The last drive was heartbreaking. Give McKnight lots of credit on that last drive, he was good. The last drive was definitely, you go back and you think about, and you think about how close you came to winning.

Ohio State will travel to Toledo for a non-conference game before starting their Big 10 schedule at home against Illinois. USC now faces three straight Pac 10 games, starting next weekend on the road at the University of Washington. Theyll return home the following weekend for a game against Washington State before heading to Northern California the next Saturday for a tough challenge against the University of California.

Backpacking : A world of difference

Published by Joseph Then under Outdoor Sporting

Let me ask you a simple question. Have you ever thought of backpacking? Well, if you have been thinking of the adventure and fun you will have while backpacking, then you are at the right place. This article will offer tell you why you should backpack.

Firstly, we have to understand what backpacking is. Backpacking is a form of low-cost travel. In other words, backpacking is a way where you can travel around without bringing too much money. But, backpacking means that there will be no luxuries like posh hotels and air-con malls.

I am sure some of you may find it difficult to find pals who are willing to travel with you. Some of your friends are not keen to go on an adventure like this.

Trust me on this; you won’t be alone for long. Trust me a month of backpacking does not mean a month of loneliness. There are many other like minded people traveling the way you are.

The best tips I can offer you; the easiest way to make friends is to get involved in activities. Join a group of people to scuba dive. I am sure you’ll make friends there. Alternatively, simply strike up a conversation in the hostel. Make sure you do it with a smile. You can say something simple like ‘Hey guys I am on my own. Mind if I join you?’ Sounds very simple, right?

Here’s one more really good reason for backpacking: You can really get out of your working life. Backpacing allows you to almost leave everything behind, without a worry.

Well if you are living behind your boy/girlfriend, here’s a tip that I can offer you. You should take a timeout before you leave. Well, if you are in a serious relationship the I suggest that you both should come out with ground rules when you are away.

Backpacking on your own is a brave decision, but it’s important to know what it is you actually want to do while traveling.

How? Well you should do a research on the country or countries that you are going. The next thing that you should note is money. Traveling alone with not so much cash needs can be quite difficult. Next, learn how to manage your cash.

Dealing with different environments can be difficult but I assure you that while backpacking it may be hard for the first week but you will get the hang of it. Taking care of yourself and also learn from the new environment can be surprisingly easy.

If you are thinking that you need more confidence while traveling, carry a guide book with you. It helps if the guide books contain phrases that are commonly used in a country in their language.

Bringing home the different perspective of life is priceless. Some may be wondering why I say this. Simple, you have a first hand experience of different cultures and knowledge.

How? You should try to participate in as much activities as you can while you are in another country. And the last tip I can give you is that you should learn as much as you can about the culture of the people in the country.

Now that you are armed with this knowledge, I am sure you will be confident enough to set off into this learning experience on your own.

Backpacking can be a great experience, even if you go backpacking alone. Avoid all the mistakes made by beginners by reading up a couple of Backpacking Tips. Go to this website and find out more about backpacking : http://www.backpackingtips.net

Activities To Extend Vertical Jump

Published by Jason Fowler under Basketball

Jumping higher or falling requires robust muscles. Athletes and basketball players are the people that perform these exercises to increase their vertical leap. Volleyball players are also given training in the exercises that increase their vertical leap.

Exercises to extend Vertical Leap Warm Up

Warm up is a big step that should not be skipped before you perform any of your exercises. Stretching exercises and methodologies must be learned properly to perform warm up. Light jogging for a minute or two can help to heat up your muscles and so ease your exercising movements.

Exercises to extend Vertical Leap Some Drills

Here are some of the exercises meant to enhance your jump and help you jump higher.

Toes Raises

Stand on your legs with equal weight on both the legs. Raise your feet so that you will stand on the tips of your toes. Then come down to the original position. The stretch will be felt at the calf and the thigh muscles considerably. Repeat this for roughly 20-25 times. After one week or so you can increase the count steadily.

Knee Bends

For performing these exercises to increase the vertical leap, stand upright and slowly bend your knees. When you are bending your knees, make sure that your back is straight. Slowly bend your knees and go in a downward direction. Remember, don’t bend the knees more than your capacity. If bending injures after a certain point, stop at that point itself. Do not overdo bending, otherwise, it may lead the way on to heavy wounds.

Jumping ( Skipping ) Rope

Jumping using a jump rope decidedly boosts your vertical leap. Jumping with a rope can be done anywhere. This is one of the most favorable exercises to increase vertical leap.

Regular Workout

Exercises to extend vertical leap include exercise routines for buttressing the muscles of the lumbar region, lower stomach, upper stomach and obliques. These are those muscles which generate a lot of power when a higher leap is desired.

These are the exercises to extend vertical leap. Increasing the body flexibility is also crucial for increasing the vertical leap. This is as tight muscles cannot help you jump higher.

More info on increasing your vertical jump can be found at jumping exercises and Jumping Drills.

The Best Locations to Bike in Nebraska

Published by Pat J. Williams under Outdoor Sporting

Nebraska is situated on the Great Plains and it is pretty much considered flat in a geographical sense. Bikers should not fret however. There are still tons of enjoyable places to go riding. There are some hills in the eastern part of the state. Panorama Point is the highest point in Nebraska with an elevation of 5,424 feet. Below are some of the trails that the state of Nebraska has to offer.

The Pine Ridge Trails are near Chadron have nearly 50 miles worth of state park trails that are well marked and well kept. There are trails here for everyone. Intermediate and even advanced riders will find some rocky, technical trails to test your skill level. You will trek up a steep climb or two! There are camping grounds close by so you can even spend more time in the area. There is much wildlife there too.

You can pick from 18 miles of track at the Wilderness Trail by Lincoln. The trails are not very hard, but you can ride on them all day for an excellent workout. Watch for hikers, equestrians, and even local wildlife.

Swanson Park close to Bellevue is a 6-mile loop. It is advisable to go the same way as the other bikers or you may be run off the trail. This ride is very popular so the track gets busy with many hikers, equestrians, and other cyclists. Nonetheless, the track is properly maintained and offers many uphill and downhill sections and even some tree roots for technical challenges.

Platte River State Park near South Bend is 12 miles of steep and technical singletrack. There are lots of switchbacks and exposed drops and the downhill sections can be particularly brutal. Check with the park ranger before you ride because certain hours are for horseback riding only. You will also need a park permit to ride as well. Most visitors are shocked that such steep hills actually exist in Nebraska, but they do!

Indian Cave State Park near Auburn is a great place for proficient riders. The steep 26-mile trail poses some technical challenges along with some very tight switchbacks. The area is not very crowded because the trails are hard. If you are not very fit, you can walk your bike so make sure you take along some bug spray to keep the bugs away! The trails tend to be slippery because they are made of sandy dirt and so it is best not to ride just after it has rained. After enjoying a fun day of jumps, climbs, and hear racing descents, you can rest and relax at the superb campground there.

Potters Field is by Brady, Nebraska and has several trails to pick from but they are all created for advanced riders. The uphill parts will delight visitors because they are some of the steepest in the whole state; however, the downhill parts are very well worth the climb up! There are over 30 miles of trails so bring a friend with you.

Nebraska can get pretty wet in the spring and the muddy trails can be quite dangerous. Also, riding on muddy trails creates deep ruts which other riders might not appreciate. The best time to ride is during the summer and early fall. As always, when riding in remote areas, watch out for wildlife and be safe!

The Comfort Bike Shop is our recommendation for beginning cyclists. When you don’t need a hardcore mountain or a road racing bike, a comfort bike or cruiser bike could be your best choice.PJ carries the net’s best selection of cruiser bikes in her store, The Comfort Bike Shop.

Finding Used Skis For Sale

Published by Paul Edwards under Winter Sports

Nowadays, everyone is buying ‘used’. Cars, houses, clothes, and even skis. There’s nothing wrong with it! If your budget is tight, here is how to find used skis for sale.

Children are really the best bet when it comes to getting used skis. Kids grow out of everything way too fast, and they grow out of expensive skis just as fast as cheap sneakers. Getting brand news skis for your kids can usually turn into a waste of money. A set of good skis can easily run through an entire family or even a neighborhood before showing any signs of wear.

Check online first. You can see descriptions, photos and compare pricing. You can even email for more information. Many message boards can be searched so that you can find skis by price, by location, by brand, by size, or whatever it is you are primarily interested in. Chances are you can find what you need not too far from home.

Many families bought their skis at resorts and paid top dollar. Even though you might be getting a bargain at 50% off, you could still be paying a pretty penny. If you don’t plan on using them much, keep looking for something more reasonably priced that will still do the job.

What you need to play a major role in your purchase decision is the exact reason for buying your skis. Keep in mind exactly what you will be using them for. There’s a big difference in getting skis for the entire family for one single ski vacation, and buying skis for your son who will be training for the Olympics. And forget about spending top dollar for kids’ skis ‘ even used ‘ if your kids have never skied before.

Before making a decision, know exactly what you plan on doing with the skis and how long you think you’ll use them. You might even be able to resell them.

For anyone looking to buy a set of skis for sale then make sure you check out the deals on skis internet site. It has various guides to make certain you make the best choices while offering a massive offering of new and used skis on sale at famously low prices. Make sure you visit right now.

Ideal Places to Bike Ride in Montana

Published by Patricia Williams under Outdoor Sporting

Montana is a state filled to the brim with natural beauty. Mountains, forests, and lakes are everywhere and they will make your ride more splendid and challenging. Take into account though that the state has severe winters, and riding is recommended in summer and early fall months. Even spring can be harsh with much melting snow making the trails muddy and slippery. Be safe!

The Pear Lake Trail close to Dillon is actually an old jeep road that is nearly 12 miles long. It is a great place for beginners because it is not that hard of a ride but it has a bit of climb to test your stamina. You will also be able to experience some of the spectacular views of lakes and mountains on the way.

The Castle Mountains bike trails by Sulfur Springs have several riding trails for all riders. There are flat dirt roads that are good for beginners or more challenging trails that reach an elevation of 4000 feet for the advanced rider. With hard climbs and speeding descents, there is something here for everyone to try. If you really want to spend some time here, you can visit the hot springs resort that has a pool and soaking tub in White Sulfur. You can soak and relax your aching joints after a long day of riding.

The Rattlesnake Recreation Area near Missoula is very popular with both bikers and equestrians. As part of the Lolo National Forest it is well maintained and there are detailed maps of the area so you cannot get lost. There are various types of trails for all levels of experience. If you’re looking for steep climbs, ridge rides, and lots of other technical stuff, then this is the place for you! Beginners and intermediate riders can also enjoy some of the trails here as well. Just be on the lookout for hikers and horseback riders as well.

Advanced riders really adore the 9-mile trail that is adjacent to Emerald Lake and Heather Lake by Bozeman. The scenery is lovely, and you can encounter a lot of switchbacks, roots, and rocks as well. It is a climb to get to the lakes however; you then get to enjoy a zooming descent on the way back down!

Another trail with a lot of scenery is the one at Lost Cabin Lake close to Mammoth. The trails are only 4 and half miles and are very well kept, but there are some technical aspects for you to experience too. It is located in the middle of nowhere and so there will not be any crowding and you will see some amazing scenery, so do not forget to bring your camera!

Speaking of beauty, Kootenai Falls trail near Libby is a great place to bike. Start at the falls so you get the difficult part out of the way first. You have to cross a swinging bridge and then walk your bike over nearly half a mile of shale but you then get to see a beautiful view of the falls. You then have about 10 more miles of track to complete.

Most trails in Montana are shared with equestrians so always be on the lookout for others on the trail. Always leave the trail as clean (or cleaner) than you found it so that Montana can keep thrilling others with their wondrous natural beauty for centuries to come.

PJ started TheComfortBikeShop.com with her husband to serve the needs of beginning cyclists. When she first got started riding, her choices were between a poorly made department store bike or a very expensive mountain bike. PJ is a big advocate of getting a comfort bike or cruiser bikes to introduce yourself to the sport. She hopes to see you on the trails.

Myrtle Beach has some of the most prestigious golf vacation packages with diverse activities built into each one. Basic Golfing Tips for Beginners: 2

Published by Rhys Jones under Golf

What You Should Keep in your Golfing Bag.

There are many golf bags available; some are designed for fashion, some for utility and some that combine both features. There are big bags, bigger bags and bags so big that they would keep everything I need for a long week-end vacation in one of the side pockets!

A basic, practical golf bag is one just large enough to hold your clubs (obviously), spare golf balls, tees, golf glove, pencils, keys, sunblock cream, ball markers, a ball retriever, an umbrella and a plastic raincoat.

It is also probably a good idea to have with you: a packet of tissues, a band-aid or two, and if you play courses where insects are a problem, a can of bug repellent comes in very handy.

A small pack of wipes can be just what you need too if it gets hot or you get covered with sand in one of the bunkers or you have to fish your ball out of a stream.

If you suffer from any allergies or illnesses, it is a wise precaution to carry antidotes with you. For example, if you are sensitive to bee stings then anti-hystamine or whatever you take if you are a diabetic. However, remember to replace drugs before their expiry date.

Please remember to turn off your mobile phone before you put it away as a courtesy to the other players. No one is going to be best pleased to hear your phone go off just as he is about to take a shot. It is part of golfing etiquette too. If you must use it, walk away from the teams.

If you have these items with you in your golf bag, you will be covered for most minor tribulations, like a bee sting, an ant bite, a blister or even a sudden downpour. If you know that you are well prepared, you will be able to relax that little bit more and enjoy your game that much more too.

Are you new to golf? We have some greon our website at tips for the beginner golfer on our website at Golfing Tips for Beginners

The History Of The Rugby World Cup

Published by Adriana Noton under Soccer

Rugby is a sport that is enjoyed all over the world, throughout the countries of the British Commonwealth in particular. It is a gruelling sport that involves 15 players on each side and is particularly fanatically supported in countries such as New Zealand and Wales where they see it as their main national sport. Due to the popularity of the sport, every four years there is a Rugby World Cup where all of the best teams in the world come to test themselves against each other in pursuit of the grandest prize of all.

The first World Cup was held in 1987 and was hosted by the juggernauts of rugby in Australia and New Zealand. Since this time, there have been for additional tournaments, each one held at intervals or four years. In 1987 New Zealand became the inaugural winners of the World Cup, beating France in the final by 29 points to 9.

Four years later the Rugby world cup came to Europe and was hosted by Great Britain throughout different stadiums in England, Ireland, and also France across the pond. For this tournament, a qualifying tournament was used to decide the final lineup of the 32 teams that were to compete. Four years ago it had been an invite only tournament, but now some of the lesser-known countries had to go through qualifying periods in order to make sure they got into the tournament.

It was Australia who turned up as champions on this occasion, as the hosts England were defeated in the final by a very small margin of 12 to 6.

Four years later in 1995 the tournament was first set up in South Africa. This was a very grand moment in the history of rugby as South Africa were allowed to compete in the first time due to the end of apartheid and the boycott against them on the world sporting scene.

South Africa were relatively un-fancied as a team to win the tournament, but they had some great sporting players in the team. However with a fantastic home crowd behind them, they rose up through the tournament and managed to get the final against the powerhouse of world rugby New Zealand. In a thrilling encounter they managed to overturn New Zealand by a small margin of just three points and became the champions of rugby the first time at their first attempt.

In 1991 the World Cup once again returned to the shores of Europe with whales being the host and matches played all over the five Nations. In a great upset, a fantastic semi-final saw the dominant New Zealand beaten by France, who then stepped up against Australia in the final. However, France could not repeat the correct efforts, and Australia became the first team to win the World Cup for a second time.

By 2003, the dominant team in world rugby had for the first time changed from being New Zealand and other teams from the southern hemisphere and the first time England were the team to beat at the tournament. With the great Johnny will concern at number 10 and his trusty left boot in order, England were favourites to overturn New Zealand if they were to meet them. However this was not necessary, as Australia turned up and managed to defeat New Zealand on home turf, meeting England in the final in the greatest ever be much played. True to form, they will concern provided the finishing touch to a magnificent effort by the England team.

Most recently, the World Cup has been played in 2007 and was hosted by France. South Africa became only the second team to win the trophy for a second time as they overturned the current champions and relatively unfancied England in the final. In 2011 the competition will be played in New Zealand. Were the best team in the world be able to complete a famous victory on this occasion?
